Day 3 - Smelly Town, USA

Well, it seems I was premature in declarin the remainder of last night "uneventful". Turns out, it was anything but uneventful for Loosie, as she told us tales of her many trips across the campground to the, ahem, facilities. We never did figure out her ailment, but we suspected mebbe a little dehydration, compounded by yesterday eve's alcohol intake…so we all swore a solem oath to force water upon her all day today. And no you pervs, I'm not talkin wet t-shirt contests here.

Anyways, we pack the bikes, saddle up, and head into Lake City for breakfast. Gotta give CK some credit here as an A-1 spotter. She spied us a little café tucked into the corner in the old historic section of town that served up a delicious breakfast. Wish I could remember the name of the place, 'cause it's definitely worth findin on yer next trip thru Lake City. Gotta start takin better notes on these rides. After breakfast, we head south outta town, and pick up US-41 south. This road turned out to be Florida's equivalent to yesterday's ride down US-221. It took us thru the horse country and farmlands of northern Florida…once again, sprinkled with the requisite podunk towns reminiscent of a Florida of yesteryear. I really like interstates…they suck all the traffic off the roads we like to ride. Once again, we pretty much had the road to ourselves.

We stayed on 41 down to Floral City, where we hung a left on I think county road 48 over to US-301. The ride across 48 was beautiful…lined with live oaks draped with Spanish moss for a ways…givin way to rollin farmland afer a couple miles. We didn't take many pics after 48, as the rest of the day's ride turned into any other run down four-lane highways…not to mention, the last 40 or so miles were spent tryin to outrace a storm…a race I'm sad to announce we didn't win. But, just like many times in the past, Mother Nature proved once again she has a warped sense of humor by turnin off the spicket 'bout the time we hit our destination, the Clewiston KOA just south of Lake Okeechobee. Oh well, at least we won't get wet headin out fer dinner. Our glee at the rain's departure turned to concern over our choice of today's destination, as we were greeted with signs in our cabin warnin to not drink the water or swim in local waterways 'cause of some chemical or acid pollutin the area. But, judgin from the smell of the area, I don't know that we needed those warnings…was kinda evident if'n ya ask me. Oh well, at least it's dry and we have a place to lay our heads for the night. See ya tomorrow for some island hoppin.
