Day 6 - Snorkelin, Chummin, and more Pub Crawlin

OK, it's our second…and last…full day on the island, and for whatever reason, we're up early. I guess Cuz 'n Loosie were tired of the pub crawlin thingy, so they decided to ride back up the highway a bit and try to catch a glimpse of the key deer on Big Pine Key. To make some browny points and fend off withdrawal symtoms of CK's shoppin addiction, she 'n I head out for a walk'n'shop along Duval Street. Well, the first thing we decide to buy is a t-shirt from our favorite tiki bar, Willie T's. Hey, wouldn't ya know it, they're also sellin margaritas at 10:30 in the mornin…so there we are again…startin an early mornin pub crawl. Oh well, might as well take advantage of our last day of island time, eh. After a couple drinks there, we continue our shoppin tour, and end up in one of the shops sellin pieces of the Treasure of the Atocha. The Atocha was a shipwreck fulla riches discovered and recovered by Mel Fisher back in the 80's. They had some of the treasure on display and some of it for sale in this shop…includin some of it made into jewelry…and I'm thinkin, "Oh no…jewelry…CK's weakness…I'm doomed!" But, then it dawns on me…it's our 14th anniversary when we get back home. So, bein the opportunistic husband that I am, I suddenly…and much to CK's surprise and delight…volunteer to buy her a bracelet made from silver recovered from the Atocha. TADAAA! Just like that, I'm a hero…and am walkin down Duval with a giggly li'l girl on my arm. We wander into the Bull…the bar below the upstairs clothing optional bar…and meet the barmaid who is wearin several pieces of the Atocha treasure 'round her neck. Turns out she was datin Mel's son, and was sorta an unofficial member of the dive team when the treasure was discovered.

After a few more drinks at the Bull…and several other waterin holes…we find our way back to the condo to inform Cuz 'n Loosie that we're gonna pass on the snorkelin trip, and we'll just meet 'em when they get back. Hey, we'd been there, done that…and we were just tired. Cuz 'n Loosie didn't seem to mind as they packed their gear, and headed out to catch a boat. A few hours later, Ck 'n I saddled up and headed towards the wharf. We find Cuz's scoot, pull in beside it, and lo and behold, there's a bar close by…go figure. We settle in at The Wharf for a few drinks, and enjoy some live music while waitin for Cuz 'n Loosie to sail back into port. How many of ya's have seen the comedian, Ron White's bit on cruise ship drink coupons…or coopuns! as he calls 'em. Well, we're sittin there havin drinks, and CK decides she wants to try some fancy smancy drink, so she saunters over to the bar to order one. Just a few minutes earlier, the bar was invaded by passengers from a cruise ship. When CK tried to order her drink, the barmaid kept askin her for her coopun! She kept tryin to tell her she didn't have any coopuns!...but it just wasn't sinkin in. So, with a wee bit of irritation in her voice, CK tells this pre-programmed barmaid, "I ain't Ron White and I don't have any freakin coopuns! So gimme my drink!"…as she flashed some green her way, and glanced back at my now doubled-over-in-laughter ass with a very frustrated "what-the-hell" look on her face. BWAHAHAHAA! That's my li'l CK.

Not long after that, Cuz 'n Loosie return from their snorkelin trip and find us at the bar once again imbibing…and eager to hear of their adventure. Cuz seemed to have had a good time as he proceeded to describe his experience with the fish. On the other hand, it seems they had forked out twenty bucks so that Loosie could have the unbefore experienced pleasure of hurlin on a boat. Hey, at least the chummin attracted the fish for the others to view. Sorry Loosie…just couldn't help meself there. hehe

Anyways, we were beat, and soon headed back to the condo for an easy, relaxin evenin and an early bedtime. Call us wusses…but we were gettin an early start in the mornin to beat the days heat on our trek back up the islands and on over to Jensen Beach. See ya at the crack 'o dawn.
